BAL Assessment Mount Martha Mornington Peninsula

BAL Assessments entail describing and categorising the vegetation that is considered to one of the main bushfire hazards within the area out to 150 metres from the development site. This vegetation is called Classified Vegetation. In Mount Martha on the Mornington Peninsula, the Classified Vegetation can be found in the steep narrow creek reserves of Sheoke, Finalyson, Sunshine and Hearn creeks, or in the bushland reserves of Fairbairn and Mount Martha Regional Park.

The orientation of the creek reserves in the landscape here, are such that a North-Westerly winds typical of a high fire danger day can funnel and ignite up through the gullies. If a bushfire is started in these places, the likely impact on the surrounding homes is from embers projected across from the reserves and into trees nearby houses.
