BAL Assessment Shoreham Mornington Peninsula

Working with the landholder to mitigate the bushfire hazard near the house recently in Shoreham enabled a wholistic approach to the bushfire management of the coastal build.

The Melaleucas growing close to the house were a critical component in the bushfire risk as the main threat of a bushfire was a grassfire running across the paddocks and into the very flammable Melaleucas that are capable of generating embers close to the the house.

Pruning of branches and the removal of a couple of Melaleucas (within regulations) created a critical area of defendable space. By reducing the bushfire hazard and creating more defendable space, the BAL rating was lowered. This approach also saved the home-builder over $40k in costs.
