BAL Assessment Mt Martha Mornington Peninsula

Assessing the bushfire hazard for a building development in Mount Martha I walked through the adjoining reserve: Fairbain Bushland Reserve. The vegetation here tells a story of the land been cleared, the removal of large woody weeds such as pittosporum and the regeneration of the indigenous species.

Sheoaks planted a decade ago have grown into a Woodland with beds of Sheoak needles and native grassland underneath. Out of the woodland is a thick heathland of tea trees and associated Coastal heathland plants then mature black wattles before the descent into the steep creek.

This small pocket of bushland is downslope to the housing developments up the hill that view from the ocean views. fortunately the block are large and accomodate the required defendable space in the backyards to build the BAL 29 and BAL 40s.
