BAL Assessment Rye Mornington Peninsula

The use of fire retardant native plant species, especially under storey species, can reduce the bushfire risk in coastal areas. When looking for native plants for landscaping, especially around buildings in coastal areas, there are a range of coastal species that have fire retardant qualities. This is due to their adaptations to the salt laden winds and their need to retain their precious water internally. By fire retardant i mean that they do not ignite or burn readily.
